Enrique Slekis has been a member of FERRERE since 2012. He is currently part of the Company Law and Corporate teams. As such he provides day-to-day advice to companies on corporate issues of varied complexity, such as bylaws amendments, share package sales and purchases, capital transactions, shareholder agreements, company windings up and liquidations, and intervention in corporate conflicts.
In his professional practice, in addition to advising domestic and foreign investors on the most efficient legal vehicles for undertaking business in Uruguay, he also stands out for his advice on commercial agreements and corporate issues in general.
In recent years Enrique Slekis has been involved regularly in the energy sector, providing advice on various nontraditional renewable energy projects. Particularly noteworthy in this sector is his participation in ongoing advice to the German firm ENERCON, which is developing various wind energy generation projects in Uruguay.
Previously, as part of FERRERE’s in-house training program, Enrique Slekis was a member of the Food, Intellectual Property and Personal Data Protection practice groups, participating on matters involving information confidentiality, contracts in general, consumer law, and regulatory and trademark issues. In the privacy area he participated in the successful defense of NIELSEN in a habeas data action brought by a powdered soft drink company which, had it been successful, would have endangered the freedom to conduct surveys in Uruguay and the viability of the business of pollsters nationwide.
Also as part of the in-house training program, in 2012 he was a member of the FERRERE Tax team, actively participating both on litigious tax issues and in everyday advice to companies on Tax and Customs Law issues. During that stage, Enrique Slekis collaborated on the preparation of a “Consultancy on Institutional Aspects of Jurisdictional Guarantees in the Relationship Between Taxpayer and Tax Administration,” commissioned by the Tax Studies Center of Uruguay to diagnose the status of Uruguay’s tax jurisdiction system and taxpayer guarantees vis-à-vis tax and social security authorities.
