The FERRERE Paraguay team advised ATOME Energy PCL, a subsidiary of President Energy, on execution of an agreement with the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI) for construction of a green hydrogen and ammonia production plant.

FERRERE’s role included, among other aspects, participation in drafting and negotiating the agreement. It will also act as advisor on the project’s implementation.

The purpose of the signed agreement is large-scale production of green hydrogen and ammonia using clean energy sources. The result of this effort will be cutting edge energy, free of polluting emissions during generation and exportable to other countries.

By the end of 2024, the plant is expected to be producing 50MW, to be gradually increased up to 250MW. The production center will be located in the Itaipu Technological Park, facilitating access to energy sources, while at the same time providing a rapid outlet to the river for transportation.

The project is in step with Paraguay’s green hydrogen roadmap, and also represents an outstanding opportunity for the country in fulfilling the objectives set out in the National Development Plan 2030 and the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.

At an initial stage, the investment is estimated at USD 100 million, to be increased to USD 500 million later.

FERERE’s advice was headed up by the partner Carlos Vasconsellos and senior associate Claudia Arietti.
