The FERRERE Paraguay family business team, made up of partner Carlos Vasconsellos, senior associate Maurizio De Oliveira and associate Fernanda Benítez, advised and accompanied the González family during the process of drafting and signing a family protocol, which consists of an instrument that will govern family relations in the business sphere.

The González family owns 2 companies: on the one hand, the renowned company G&S Cubiertas S.A., consolidated as an importer, representative and distributor of high-profile brands in the tire industry, with a track record of 39 years in the market; on the other hand, the company Rodeo Porã S.A., which has an important track record in the livestock and agricultural sector.

The two companies are a sample of the fundamental values of the business family, characterized by its constant effort and discipline to achieve its business goals. FERRERE's advice was aimed, throughout this process, at reflecting the values of the business family in a legal instrument called the family protocol. Unlike other types of corporate instruments, the family protocol has a dual purpose.

The first purpose is to recognize the characteristics, values and history of both the family and the companies, based on the experience and stories of the members of the business family. Based on this, agreements are established that reflect the reality of each business family, in order to establish guidelines to achieve business objectives. These objectives may vary in each case, depending on the particular needs of each business family. The main objective is to preserve family values and their combination with the family business, thus ensuring its continuity over time.

The second purpose, yet not less important, is that the family protocol serves to preserve family relationships between the members of the business family, promote harmony and establish mechanisms that accompany the generational transition process, in order to ensure the continuity of the family business over time.

To achieve these purposes, FERRERE's innovative approach guarantees the creation of a document tailored to each business family. In addition, it generates channels of dialogue to address both family and business issues, with recommendations on good practices to help each business family achieve its goals and maintain ownership of the business in family hands over time.

FERRERE's assistance was not limited only to the preparation of the customized family protocol for the needs of each business family. It also focuses on the implementation of the agreements reached by the family within the business ecosystem, thus ensuring a successful transition towards the specific objectives of each family regarding their company.

After the completion of the process, José González, founding partner and CEO indicated: “The protocol preparation experience was very positive, carried out in a controlled, relaxed and trusting environment. Now it is necessary to implement the agreements reached.” Likewise, Ana González, member of the second generation and shareholder of family businesses, indicated, regarding the protocol, that: “It’s been fulfilling to have been accompanied during the process and it has brought us peace of mind.”
