FERRERE announced today that it has incorporated the intellectual property practice of Mónica Bacot & Asociados as part of its professional team.

The agreement reinforces the trademark and patent registration area of FERRERE and is geared to enhancing synergies with its own Intellectual Property practice, headed up by partner Agustín Mayer. With this incorporation FERRERE’s IP legal advice and dispute settlement service, recognized by publications and in international rankings as the leader in the Uruguayan market, is proposing to deploy a “strong offensive in the area of trademark, patent and copyright registration,” according to Mayer.

“We are very satisfied with having brought the practice of Mónica Bacot & Asociados to FERRERE. This agreement not only brings more professionals and clients to the firm, but also provides an opportunity to multiply our presence in an area we see as key. With a first-rate registry practice we are aiming at stepping up our already consolidated professional offer in the area of intellectual property, entertainment, sports, pharmaceuticals, and antitrust,” said Mayer.

In turn, the director of Mónica Bacot & Asociados, María Fernanda Cea Bacot, underscored the significance of her firm’s IP practice joining FERRERE. “It is a transcendent step, of which I am enormously proud. FERRERE offers a unique platform to strengthen my intellectual property work, to which I am devoted by vocation and several generations of family tradition,” she said.

Cea Bacot indicated that they will continue providing clients the personalized and effective service that has long characterized Monica Bacot & Asociados, “with the advantages undoubtedly afforded by doing so from Uruguay’s top professional platform, one of the most important regional platforms in Latin America.”

Andrés Cerisola, Managing Partner of FERRERE, stressed the relevance of this agreement and its scope. “We welcome MONICA BACOT & ASOCIADOS and its team. In this decision FERRERE is moving forward in a process of expansion that in recent months has been marked by the record growth with which it closed 2010, the opening in October of its offices in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and the launching of our practice in Administrative Law and Regulations, directed by the former president of Uruguay’s Energy and Water Regulator, Cristina Vazquez. Making the most of the extraordinary economic times in Uruguay and Paraguay, as well as the beginning of a recovery of investment in natural resources in Bolivia, the firm is growing solidly in its three jurisdictions. Hence it is fulfilling its mission to continue to keep pace with the growing number of companies investing in the region and creating value and opportunities for their shareholders, employees, clients and communities. At what would have been the 61st anniversary of the birth of our founder, Daniel Ferrere, who passed away last year, we are proud to say that the dynamism and push for growth that he always brought to FERRERE remain intact,” said Cerisola.

Mónica Bacot & Asociados is an intellectual property agency focusing on registration of IP rights. Mónica Bacot is well known in the IP market, following a family tradition of more than 70 years.
