According to a report by AS / COA and Control Risks. Ecuador scored 4 out of 10 in the capacity to fight corruption index.

The second edition of the Corruption Ability Index was released earlier this month. This report assesses the ability of 15 Latin American countries to discover, punish, and prevent corruption.

According to the report, the CCC index evaluates and classifies the effectiveness of the countries with which they can fight corruption using 14 variables. These include the independence of judicial institutions, the level of resources to combat white-collar crime and the strength of investigative journalism.

Ecuador obtained 4.19 points in the capacity to fight corruption index below the regional average, which is 4.71 points. The report details that, in the Ecuadorian case, the legal capacity to fight corruption is 4.11.

And the lowest variable in this category is independence and resources for the attorney general and his investigators, 2.5 when the average in Latin America is 3.54, which worries us and, at the same time, people who work on anti-corruption issues, encourages us even more to achieve a change on these alarming data.

With this background and in the face of multiple investigations into corruption cases committed during the health emergency, the Quito Chamber of Commerce (CCQ) and the Ecuador Chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Ecuador) -where FERRERE has a very active participation with our Managing Partner Javier Robalino- produced a manifesto with proposals for the fight against corruption. The objective is to create a social culture so that citizens are not passive in the face of illegal acts.

These objectives have edges such as communication, developing a campaign so that Ecuadorians are not permissive and actively denounce illegal acts, business transparency, education and proposed regulations against corruption.

In two weeks, they will give a press conference in which they will indicate who will lead the workshops, under what axes, what they are committed to and the work schedule.
