Laura Barúa specializes in analysis of complex civil and commercial cases, with a practice focusing on study of substantive issues and comprehensive litigation management. She participates actively in judicial proceedings handled by the firm, including tracking, control and development of each case underway in her area.
She has administrative claims experience, particularly in connection with tax credit refunds, brand confusability, and consumer protection, in both administrative and judicial venues. She is also experienced in actions for collection of credits, mortgage foreclosures, creditors meetings and bankruptcies, compensation, trademark nullity and constitutional guarantees.
Her practice also includes management of extrajudicial collections that prioritize alternative conflict resolution before taking judicial action.
She started her professional career as government attorney with the Treasury Legal Counsel, where she handled judicial and administrative tax matters. Before joining FERRERE, she was a paralegal at an Asunción law firm, where she handled civil and commercial judicial proceedings, administrative claims, constitutional guarantees and administrative investigations before public institutions.
She studied at the School of Legal and Diplomatic Sciences of Universidad Católica “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción,” with emphasis on International Law and Private Law. As a student she authored various articles on labor rights, transfer pricing, and other subjects, published in the university’s law review.
