President Tabaré Vázquez recently announced that during his Administration the investment in infrastructure will total USD 12.37 billion, the highest figure in recent history. The most significant investments will be in Energy (USD 4.23 billion), Highways (USD 2.36 billion) and Social Infrastructure (USD 1.87 billion). The President also announced that one third of the investments will be made with private financing through concessions, PPA agreements and Public-Private Participation (PPP) agreements.

In this context, the first PPP in the country’s history was signed for construction of a penitentiary unit for USD 97 million, and evaluation of bids is underway in a tender for USD 80 million in highway works. Additionally, in the coming weeks the final bidding conditions will be published for rehabilitation and maintenance of railways USD 120 million.
