Deputy Minister of Mining (Fernando Benalcázar) told El Comercio that the mining cadastre is scheduled to open in the first half of 2020.

The Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources stated in an interview that the Government has the financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) for defining a new map and mining areas.   This map will be based on better technology and will put more emphasis on care of protected areas, urban centers and no-mining areas.

The mining cadaster information currently available is being reviewed and updated, and a new round of mining concession bidding will probably be launched in the first half of next year, said Benalcázar.

Thus far the process has moved ahead and is more than 80% cleared.

The idea is to seek private investment to explore new mining areas, which is generating expectations in the sector given that no such bidding has been conducted in the country since the end of 2017.
