Rafael Valdivieso

Rafael Valdivieso has extensive experience in complex corporate structurings and financing agreements for oil and infrastructure projects.

 

Rafael Valdivieso is a senior associate at FERRERE’s Ecuador office with a focus on Administrative Law and the oil industry. Rafael has been acknowledged by Chambers & Partners as an “Associate to Watch” and by The Legal 500 as a “Next Generation Attorney” in Energy and Natural Resources.

Rafael has extensive experience in handling complex corporate structuring and project financing agreements for major infrastructure, mining and oil-related projects, which have included several cross-border transactions as well as local and international mergers and acquisitions. He has worked on many transactions in corporate and international arbitration matters throughout several regions, alongside high-profile global firms. Furthermore, he has collaborated in structuring new oil operations in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Guatemala, Cuba y Venezuela. .

Prior to joining FERRERE, Rafael began his practice in 2012 at a major law firms in Ecuador, where he was an Associate. Rafael was also a research assistant at Pérez Bustamante & Ponce from mid- 2009 until late 2010.

Aside from Rafael’s professional activities, he teaches Administrative Law I and II to undergraduate students at Universidad San Francisco de Quito as an adjunct professor.

Rafael has written several pieces on Upstream Oil & Gas regulation, international arbitration, energy markets and Administrative Law, which have been published in various first-class publications in English and Spanish, including Chambers & Partners and Law Business Research.

Additionally, he was the Secretary General of the Ecuador Chapter of the International Fiscal Association (IFA).
